Art of eating
Air, water and food are the 3 most essential needs of life. Eating the right food plays a crucial role in forming and maintaining overall fitness of the body.
The Food pyramid depicts that nutritious food which includes fruits and vegetables that are needed for a healthy living. Or in simple terms we could say that “Staple food supplies fuel needed by the body where as fruits and vegetables charge the battery of the body engine”.
It is recommended to have 5 types of fruits and vegetables in our daily diet. Ideally these should be of different colors. The natural food colors such as anthocyanin (blue, purple), carotene (orange, yellow, red) and chlorophyll (green) are rich sources of antioxidants. These prevent aging and keep us fit, young and with high spirit!!
Further, our diet should contain combination of different sources of proteins. Human body can not make some essential amino acids and these must be supplied by different animal / vegetable proteins. Sprouts, Dhals and lentils are rich in proteins. However there is no single source of ideal protein and hence combination of dhals is recommended. These foods also contains many other minerals and nutrients needed by the body.
In India, Moong dhal is recommended for daily consumption since is easily digestible. Tur dal is also consumed daily in most parts of India. It is tasty, low in fat and high in protein and fiber.
